Crypto Trading Friend May Be Part of Scam

A person has reported with a warning experience involving a promising crypto scam started in the guise of a legit online friendship.

The person, as per the individual, got in touch with someone from France who seemed friendly and financially successful. The two became friends through video calls and conversations, with the French friend explaining that crypto trading was a lucrative side business. Once trust had been gained, the new friend introduced the person to a trading platform, asking them to copy his trades, allegedly advised by an analyst via a family connection.

As a pilot, he placed about $100 and gained a small amount of profit, creating trust in the system. His acquaintance also provided screenshots of high-volume trades and high returns, giving an illusion of authenticity.

But red flags went up when the friend pushed for a much bigger trade — a $2,000 minimum — saying the next one was a 60-second trade that demanded a larger deposit. The trading platform did reflect this requirement, but the unexpected push to invest so much more sent up warning signs.

Although no outright scam has yet taken place, experts caution that this is a typical ploy employed by scammers to groom victims before more significant financial losses are incurred. Warning is advised.
